  3.           Section 3.9     Configuring HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS
  4.                           (D1812B) and HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS for
  5.                           NetWare (D1823A)
  6.
  7.                Introduction
  8.
  9.                     This section explains how to order PC hardware and
  10.                     software that will meet user needs for HP ARPA
  11.                     Services 2.1/MS-DOS in HP LAN Manager
  12.                     environments, in Novell NetWare environments and
  13.                     in standalone environments.
  14.
  15.                     With HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS and HP ARPA
  16.                     Services 2.1/MS-DOS for NetWare, a PC running MS-
  17.                     DOS can communicate in a multi-vendor environment
  18.                     using the networking services defined by the
  19.                     Department of Defense Advanced Research Project
  20.                     Agency (ARPA) and Berkeley Software Distribution
  21.                     (BSD) UNIX(R)  system.  ARPA services, like UNIX,
  22.                     are defacto standards in the scientific and
  23.                     engineering communities and are becoming much more
  24.                     widespread in the commercial world.  Both of these
  25.                     products allow users to save money by leveraging
  26.                     their investments and sharing resources and also
  27.                     allows them to integrate DOS and UNIX systems.
  28.
  29.
  30.                     With HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS for NetWare, a PC
  31.                     running MS-DOS and NetWare can have all of the
  32.                     functionality mentioned above and will not have to
  33.                     reboot when moving between NetWare and HP ARPA
  34.                     Services.  These products support the DOS
  35.                     environment as well as the new Windows 3.0 and 3.1
  36.                     and HP NewWave 3.0 environments in all modes.  The
  37.                     NetIPC application program interface is supported
  38.                     by HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS.
  39.
  40.                     HP ARPA 2.1 services are not supported on OS/2 at
  41.                     this time.
  42.

  113.
  114.                          HP recommends that DOS clients have 640 KB of

  116.                          networking software and to run most
  117.                          applications.  Less than 640 KB of memory

  128.                          memory limit may be pressed when using
  129.                          certain applications (such as HP  NewWave
  130.                          Office applications and Advancelink with
  131.                          graphics).  Customers who want to run these
  132.
